Music Literacy Program (MLP)


Provides students an opportunity to demonstrate their music literacy skills in Technique, Theory, Rhythm, Sight Reading and Ear Training.

Important Dates:

Mail in registration Deadline – October 8th, 2021

On-line Event Date – December 4th, 2021

Registration Process

Fill out and print registration form, available on the SMTA and WSMTA websites.

Students may be entered in multiple levels. (i.e. L5 Theory, L4 Technique, etc.)

Place a “0” in columns for areas that students are not participating in.

Leave “Options” column blank

Enter:

$3.50 for the State fee

$12.50 for the Chapter fee

$16.00 for the total fee

Include an email address for each student to be used for communication from the adjudicator who will be administering Technique, Rhythm, Sight Reading and Levels 1 & 2 Listening tests on-line.

Mail 2 copies of the form and email addresses to:

Along with ONE check, made out to SMTA for the total amount for all students.

Financial aid is available through WSMTA and SMTA for students who need assistance.

A handbook is available by clicking on “Student programs – Music Literacy Program” on either the SMTA or the WSMTA MLP websites.

The handbook outlines the requirements for each of the 10 levels for each category included in MLP.

Theory tests will be distributed to participating teachers.  Students may take the tests home and return to their teacher by December 11th.

Teachers who have students entered in the Ear Training portion will receive answer sheets and CD’s so they can administer Levels 3 – 10 in their studios.  Levels 1 & 2 ear training will be done on-line with an adjudicator.
