The Spokane Chapter of the American Guild of Organists seeks your help in identifying interested and qualified students for its Organ Academy, a short course of organ lessons with the twin goals of interesting young people in the organ, and entering them in theOrgan Division of Musicfest Northwest.
The program provides ten 45-minute private lessons with a qualified teacher for the cost of $100 – two more lessons than last year! One of the most enjoyable features of the course is the Saturday morning practice sessions, held at different churches, allowing the students to meet and play for each other, and to experience different organs in the city. Aformal recital is presented prior to Musicfest so that students feel ready to play for the festival adjudicator.
Prospective students must be age 10-20 and able to play the easier Bach Preludes and/or Inventions. A text book is provided, with the option to purchase it at a reduced price at the end of the course if the student wishes to keep it.
Students who participated in the 2018 program are invited to do so again to further their skills without a long-term commitment.
The Musicfest adjudicator is Dr. S. Andrew Lloyd, organ professor at the University of Texas, San Antonio. He grew up in Spokane and is delighted to be returning here. He is also presenting a recital on Sunday, May 12, prior to the Musicfest Organ Division on Tuesday, May 14.
Thank you for helping us find interested and qualified students! Registration deadline is February 1, 2019. An orientation meeting takes place in mid-February.
